The Shining

The author in the book, The Shining is trying to tell us that sometimes people make mistakes because they are not in their usual personality, which then causes them to do things that they regret after that. In order for the author to be able to write a good book, he needs to know everything about all the characters, their personality, how do they act around people. By reading this book, I can tell that he doesn't like how the main character is acting toward his son, on that time when he was drunk and he beat his child, and his arm broke. The author seems like he didn't like that Jack did that to his son. I personally think the author wrote this book to tell the audience that drinking is wrong and sometimes it leads to things that you regret afterwards. But I didn't really like this book, because the author puts so much detail in his writing, which makes me lose what I am reading, and I start to forget what I am reading about, and what his happening in the book, also I get bored after a while. This book takes place in Overlook in Colorado. The best part in the book that describes the place is what happens in a certain time in the year, about that some people get locked into the hotel for weeks and they are not able to get out. I have never been to a place like that, but the nature around the area of the hotel was beautiful, and I would love to visit a place like this someday. Like we saw in the movie, all the mountains and trees around that area look beautiful.

The movie The Exorcist is not that scary movie any more as how it used to be in 1973. More computer generated animations have been created now that can make movies scarier, so The Exorcist compared to movies nowadays, it is not that scary any more because we have saw scarier movies. Also most of the movie was boring and nothing scary was happening in it. Very few scenes had the girl in it, so that made the movie really boring and not scary. Scary movies now are just regular and not scary in the beginning, but right when they start the scary scenes, they stay that way for the rest of the movie, they keep you freaked out and sitting still in your seat wanting to know what is going to happen next. One of the scenes that I thought were kind of scary was where the girl was going down the stairs one her hands and feet, that scene was just a few seconds and it went to a different scene. So it made it not scary because they just cut it off right away, and they got a different scene where nothing scary or suspense was happening in it. Some of the scenes are not that scary anymore like the first scene that came when the devil was inside the girl, and she was acting crazy; the first time that scene came it was funny in the beginning but when it kept coming over and over again it wasn’t scary anymore. Because the director kept getting the same exact way of the girl acting in the other scenes that came after, maybe if they were different each time, and scarier each time, it would have been scarier. The movie was more funny than it was scary, the parts where the little girl was swearing that was the most funny parts in the movie. When she was screaming at the doctor and her mom, and hitting them, those scenes weren’t scary, they were funny. Another scene that wasn’t scary, was the scene where the girl’s head was spinning around, it was freaky the first time it happened, but it wasn’t scary. The scene that I thought was scary, was where the devil was talking to the priest and he said that his mom was in there with the, and the devil was using the priest’s moms voice to talk to the priest. And also that the devil knows your weakest points and he knows how to get to you. In the beginning I thought that, that was really his mother and the devil took her and she was in there with them, and that the devil took her so that the priest would feel guilty that he left his mother and went to his job after she kept telling him don’t leave me, and so that he would untie the girl and let her go. But overall the movie The Exorcist is not that scary anymore today compared to how scary it was in 1973.

I think that when writers use the supernatural in movies, it makes it scary. And when they use that there is like a demon or a devil inside of someone and how that person acts during that time makes it really scary, but some movies are not that scary when the supernatural is used in it, like the movie The Exorcist isn’t that scary even though the supernatural is used in it, I think it isn’t that scary because the scenes that were used when the devil was inside the girl were very few scenes. Because the scenes with girl in it is not that scary because it stays for a really short period of time and then goes to another scene that is not scary at all, make the audience forget about the scary parts that happened before. But if the scenes with the girl in it stays longer, and throughout most of the movie, the audience won’t forget them and they will stay scared through out the whole movie. But in other movies, when the supernatural is used in most parts of the movie it makes always suspense and you always want to know what is going to happen next..

I don’t know exactly if there is a supernatural in real life or not, because I never really thought about it. But from a long time ago, when I was little, I saw on TV that there was this man that was acting abnormally, and I didn’t really understand what was going on, but while the man was acting crazy and he wasn’t normal, and their was an Imam reading Quran to him. So I asked my parents why is the man acting like that, and why is the Imam from the Mosque holding the man down and reading Quran in his ear really loudly and they said that there is like a demon or a devil inside that person, and by the Imam reading Quran in the mans ear the demon will get out. But my questions was always how does the demon or devil get inside a person like that?

I never really fell in love with horror movies but, I kind of like them. The first time I actually watched a horror movie was when I was 7 years old. I was watching an Arabic movie, it was really scary but I liked the story of it. It was about this lady who used to dream of people getting killed and when she wakes up she finds out that they really got killed. After her dreams kept coming true she started to think that she was the one killing them in her sleep. So she asked her friend to spend the night with her to check if she gets up when she is sleeping or not. After suffering for a long time of trying to find out who is killing these people and why is she dreaming of them, she finally found out that the one who was killing the people she was dreaming of was her best friend. Her friend was doing that because she wanted to get rid of her because she likes her husband. I watched other scarier movies but this is the one that I liked. Some of the movies that I watched were really scary, and after I watch them I could never stop thinking about them, and sometimes I could get nightmares. I like to watch scary movies but I get really scared, so I never really know weather to watch it or not. The movie was called True Dreams, and some parts of the movie were related to the movies that we watched in class and the things we also studied in class. The main character's friend that turned out to be the killer was abnormal. This connects to Norman Bates in Psycho and Dr. Lenter in The Silence of the Lamb, because these two characters were abnormal too. They all were doing unusual things, Norman Bates acts like his mother, Dr. Lenter eats people, and the killer in True Dreams can know what her friend is dreaming about and she actually goes and kills the people. Also the camera angles were similar in True Dreams. In the scenes when someone is going to get killed, the camera moves in the point of view of the killer but we were never able to see who the killer was. Also the MCU (Medium Close Up) shot was used when someone was killed, the camera would zoom in on their face. Music was used a lot in the movie, when the killer is approaching someone there is always this suspense type of music that tells you that something bad is going to happen. The lighting also ha a big role in the movie, it was mostly dark though out the whole movie, bbut during the killing scenes it is usually dark with very light lightinig
